CLIPPINGS FROM THE FRIDGE: GOOGLE MADE ME DO IT!

Clippings From the Fridge is a weekly series found here every Monday, inspired by the Two Nuns, One Gun story. These are wacky true news stories straight from the insanity fringe of society.

Woman Hit By Car Sues Google For Bad Directions

Lawsuit Claims Company Culpable For Sending Her Down Highway

By CBSNews.com's David Riedel
LOS ANGELES (CBS News) ―If an online map service - say, Google Maps - gave you walking directions that included walking on a highway, you'd seek an alternate route, right? Right. Because walking on a highway is something that adults know not to do.

Enter Lauren Rosenberg, a Los Angeles native who found herself in Park City, Utah, on January 19, 2009. Rosenberg wanted to get from Point A to Point B and she chose to walk. Consulting Google Maps on her BlackBerry she was given a walking route and followed the directions closely, even though those walking directions included walking on a highway that has no sidewalks. Now Rosenberg is suing Google for her medical expenses and also for punitive damages because she was hit by a car.

Repeat: She's suing Google because she chose to walk on a highway. Down the middle of it, by the way. Rosenberg is also suing the driver who hit her.

Other reports on this story state Ms. Rosenberg is in her 20s and that the law suit was filed at the end of May 2010, more than one year after she took a stroll down a highway because a computer told her to.  Guess she's a little slow, huh?

Ms. Rosenberg does not think she is responsible for walking with her head up her butt, which is the only explanation as to why she did what she did, and now she's suing Google, as well as the driver of the car who hit her.  Her attorney says it was 6 a.m. and dark.  Grasping at straws, counselor?

Let's see if the judge has the cojones to rip Ms. Rosenberg a new one, which she needs since her head occupies her original one, and throw this suit out the window.

Reminds me of a previous Clippings story, Falling for Poo, about the girl who fell in a sewer hole 'cause she couldn't walk and text at the same time.

I wonder if the gum she was chewing kept her from walking straight. Maybe she should sue Wrigley's too.

Bwahahahah. What an idiot! I trust Google, but not enough to go take a walk in traffic.

And the prevailing argument in her defense will be brain damage?

I am upset at this item and I am consulting my lawyers with regard to suing you for publishing this, and her for being a money grabbing bint!
That should clear my Visa card debts!

Deb, that's a crazy story. LOL. Like others said, I like to use Mapquest and Google Maps, but not if I was walking and not if it suggested that I walk on the highway. Sounds like she knew what she was doing and thought she'd test the legal system out if she was injured. But hey, in CA, the courts might just agree with her. They don't call it its own country for nothing...

Ah, she was from LA. That could explain everything!
